This article explains how to import data from Excel files into Next Project using the Nuvo import tool. It covers each step of the import wizard, including uploading a file, selecting a worksheet and header row, mapping columns from the source file to the corresponding fields in Next Project, and matching values against base registers.
This article explains how to import data from Excel files into Next Project.
NOTE: Nuvo imports must be enabled on your installation to access this import tool.
In almost all modules, you can import data from a file into Next Project. This includes basic data registers such as types, chart of accounts, and more — as well as projects, users, and suppliers.
Start the import
When you choose to import data from a module, the import window will appear. At the top left, you'll see the steps you'll move through during the import process. The first step is to upload your file.
Import wizard Upload step; note supported file formats and template download options.
To upload your file, either drag and drop it into the window, or click Upload file and select the file you'd like to use.
Select worksheet
If your file contains multiple sheets, the next step is to choose which sheet you want to use for the import. Select the worksheet you'd like to use, then click continue.
Import dialog at Sheet Selection step; user must choose which sheet to import.
Select column headings
Next, you'll need to choose which row in your file contains your column headings. Select the row that has headers describing each column's content — in the example below, that's row number 9.
This step means you can have other information at the top of your file — such as sample data or notes — and still be able to import the data you actually need.
Header Selection step; user must confirm or select the correct header row.
Match columns against Next Project
Now it's time to match the columns in your file to the corresponding columns in Next Project. For each column in your file, select which Next Project column it should map to.
In many cases, the system will make suggestions automatically. If no suggestion appears, simply choose the correct column from the list yourself.
NOTE: Columns must match one to one. For example, if your file has First Name and Last Name in two separate columns, you won't be able to map these to a single Next Project column that contains both first and last name.
At the bottom left, you'll see which columns are mandatory for your current import. Make sure all required columns have a green tick, meaning they've been matched. In the example below, you'll also need to find matching columns in your file for Full name and Professional Role before you can continue.

Match values against Next Project
In the same step where you match columns, you can also match the values in your file against values found in the base registers in Next Project.
Tip: You also have the option to do this in later steps, but it's convenient to take care of it here.
For each value in your file, you can enter a corresponding value in Next Project. In the example below, you can define that the value User in column Gr* should be matched to, for example, 1RT admins RÖR EJ.

NOTE: If the value you want to match against doesn't appear in the drop-down list, you'll need to add it in Next Project first.
Once you've finished matching your values, click Confirm.
Preview the final result
Before the data is created in Next Project, you'll have a chance to preview it and fix anything that's missing or incomplete.
In the example below, not all values for Professional Role were filled in, so those fields are highlighted in red — you'll need to select the missing values in this step.

If you have a large import, you can click Show all rows with errors to filter the view so you only see the rows that need attention. You can also click Download Excel to download a file where you can add the missing information, then re-import that file.

Once there are no more errors, click Complete import.
Complete the import
When you complete the import, your data is sent to Next Project and you'll receive a confirmation of how it went.
Import completion dialog; note the success confirmation and excluded rows download option.
In some cases, things like data inconsistencies may prevent certain records from being created — these can only be detected when the system actually tries to create them. If this happens, you'll receive an error message explaining the issue.
Import completion screen; note the option to download excluded rows.
You'll have the option to download a file with a description of what went wrong. In the example below, the users already existed in the system and duplicates are not allowed.

Good luck!
