This article walks you through creating a new project in Next Project — including how to set it up under a parent project, complete all required fields, and configure hourly rates. You'll also find some important notes about how project status affects visibility on Mobile.
Step-by-Step Guide to Creating a New Project
-
Select the project you want to use as the parent project for your new project.
-
Click the '+' button on the parent project's main page (Project Information) to create your new project.
Project Information tab — note the numbered steps for navigating project records.
Note: Before you start filling in any details, make sure all project information fields are empty. (The Project start and Mark up template fields will be filled in automatically for you.)
The fields marked in red are required — your project cannot be saved without them. The following fields are mandatory:
-
Project name
-
Project manager
-
Customer
-
Status

The project number is generated automatically — don't fill this in manually. Once you've completed all the required fields, click Save.

It is also recommended to fill in the remaining fields to categorise your projects in order to follow up on your projects. To read more about categorising projects click here. ****link****
Setting Hourly Rates
After you click Save, the Hourly Rate dialog will appear. If you don't need to set any unique costs or prices for this client or project, simply click Close to dismiss it.
Hourly Rate dialog — note customer/project filter and 'Include on offer' checkboxes.
If you'd like to set customer- or project-specific costs and prices, you can do that here. Once you've set your prices, click Close — you'll be asked whether you want to save your changes. Click Yes to confirm.

Your Project Is Ready
Your new project is now set up under the parent project you selected at the start (in this example, under 10 Contracts), and it has been assigned an automatic project number.

You're all set! Just keep in mind that Statuses control which projects are visible on Mobile. By default, projects with the statuses New, Admin, and Completed are not visible on Mobile.
