This article describes the migration to Next Project's new login service, Next ID, and what the change means for both users and administrators. The reader receives information about how the activation process works, what requirements apply – including that all users must have a unique email address registered – and how administrators should prepare their organization for the transition.
The information below applies only if you have been directed here from a banner in Next Project.
Your database will be activated for the new login service on the evening of the date specified in your banner. This means that the following morning you will be guided through the activation of your Next ID – you simply start by logging in as usual.
Information for administrators
We ask that you, as administrators in Next Project, inform all users about the upcoming change and encourage them to read through this manual well in advance before the change takes effect. If problems occur during startup, we appreciate that users contact an administrator, who in turn contacts support if you cannot resolve the matter internally.
If someone has forgotten their password, an administrator needs to help by clicking Send Invitation in the user register. Note that an email address must be specified for the user for this to work.
Important: All users in the user register in the database need a unique email address to register their Next ID. Without an email address, you cannot create an account and therefore cannot log in. The address that may already be specified in the Email column in the user register (Administration → Users, the "Email" field) will be suggested during the registration process, but you are free to use any address you prefer.
What does this mean for you as a user?
Do you have roles in multiple companies (Next Project databases) in Next Project? Then you will be able to use the same Next ID everywhere – convenient and simple.
A user can choose to skip registration once within 24 hours, but after that registration is required.
What changes for you as an administrator?
- You can no longer set passwords for users. Instead, each user creates their own password when they register their Next ID – this means less administration and higher security.
- Next time you create a new active user, the activation of Next ID starts automatically when you save the user. If you create the user as inactive, the invitation is sent as soon as you set the user as active.
- If you activate a user who was not inactive during the transition to the new login, they will first use their old login and thus be guided into the activation of Next ID. If a user has forgotten their password, you need to send a new invitation in that case as well.
- Good to know: when Next ID is activated in your database, email will become a mandatory field in the user register.
Guides for Next ID
- This article describes the different parts of the activation process step by step.
- Here is a guide that shows what the activation of Next ID looks like for a new user.
Next ID – a new and more secure login service
Next ID is our new service for login and authentication. The current login method is replaced with a new way to log in – with email address as username and a self-chosen password.
Why are we changing login services?
We want to offer a more secure and flexible login. In the future, Next ID will also support login via other services, such as Microsoft Entra (Azure AD).
This will also enable easier and better integrations going forward.
