This article introduces Next Projects' new mobile solution, covering its key features including time reporting, work orders, journals, documents, and reports. It provides guidance on how to access and navigate the new application, highlights important functional changes such as updates to salary supplement reporting and article price list requirements, and explains how to get started during the soft release transition period.
Information 2025-01-27
We've released our new mobile solution for time reporting, work orders, and much more! To access it, simply log in as usual on your mobile device. You'll see an information box that says "New Next Mobile available" — tap Try now to get started.
Main Menu showing all available modules; note the New Next Mobile banner.
This is a soft release, which means you can switch between the new and old mobile versions during a transition period. You're not required to move to the new version right away, but we recommend giving it a try as soon as you can.
Important Information and New Functionality
Note: If you want to report articles via the price list, all articles must belong to a Favorites list in Next. You can read more about how to create favorites lists here:
The previous functionality for reporting salary supplements has been updated and moved — reporting is now done by entering salary items. You can find more information in this article on the Next helpdesk:

Time Reporting
Time module showing an empty day; user is prompted to log hours.
To report time in the new Next Mobile, tap Time. You'll be taken to a new page where you can view previously reported time and add new time entries.
At the top of the page, there's a bar showing the total reported time for the selected week, broken down into working time and absence. You can also get a monthly overview by tapping the Overview button.
Below the bar, you'll find a date selector where you can choose by week, month, year, or day. Tapping the button with today's date will take you straight to today. You can also move between days using the arrows.
In the date bar, you can see the number of hours reported for each day.
To start a new time report, tap the + button — you'll then see several options to complete your reporting.
Time Reporting — Step 1
Time module showing 'Register usage' bottom sheet with Work, Absence, and Copy options.
When you open time registration, you can see any entries already logged for the current day, and you can add a new report for the selected day.
- Select the day you want to report time for.
- Tap the + button. Three options will appear:
- Work — Report time against a project.
- Absence — Report absence.
- Copy previous day — Copy the previous day's report. This option depends on how your Next is configured and your company's settings, so you may not always see it.
Time Reporting — Step 2
After selecting the type of report you want to make — in this case, time — you'll be taken to a form where you fill in the details for that day.
The information you need to fill in is the same as before in Next Mobile:
- Date of the work performed.
- Project — Select the project you've been working on. Tap the row to bring up a search box where you can search for projects and mark frequently used ones as favorites (see image 2 below).
- Work Order — Select the work order or Variation Order (VO) you've worked on in the selected project.
- Role — Choose the time role you have in the current assignment.
- Hours — Enter the number of hours you've worked.
- Journal Note — Describe what you did during the day.
Below the fields, you have the option to add a photo from your camera or photo library. When a photo is taken, a small preview is shown — tap it for a closer look.
The +Add button lets you add extra information to your time report, such as salary comments.
When you're ready, tap Continue at the bottom of the page to move to the next step.
Step 1 of 2 in Report Time; note the attached image thumbnail before continuing.
Select Project dialog showing favorites, recently used, and all projects list.
Time Reporting — Step 3
Step 2 of Report Time wizard: Articles tab with category selection and quantity control.
After completing the time reporting step, you'll automatically move on to the next step — reporting items such as resources, salary supplements, and more.
At the top of this view, you'll see your Favorites — the items linked to a favorites list. You'll also see the Price List option, where you can pull in other items from the price lists in Next.
To report an item, select the quantity you're reporting and indicate any applicable salary supplements.
When you're done, tap Save to finish — your time reporting is now complete. You can also skip reporting items if you don't need to add any.
Time Reporting — Overview
Time module showing a selected day's registered task; note the weekly navigation and totals bar.
Once your reporting is complete, you'll automatically be taken back to the time reporting home page. Your completed report will be displayed there, along with your role and the number of items you've reported, as well as the total hours logged.
You can report additional entries for the same day without any issues. You can also edit a report by tapping on it. When your time has been approved, the hours will be marked in green.
Time Reporting — Adding Additional Information
Report Time screen showing the Add panel with article row and comment options.
You can add supplementary information to a time report after you've created the time entry. Here's how:
- Open the time entry.
- Tap + Add at the bottom of the page.
- Select the additional information you want to include, such as an extra item or a salary comment.
Time Reporting — Reporting Absence and Extended Absence
Report Time form showing absence selection, hours, and journal note fields.
Report Time screen with 'Repeat over time period' toggle active; note weekday and absence selections.
You've always been able to report absence in Next, but now you can also easily add mandatory details — such as information about the child you're taking leave to care for (see the left image above).
Using the Repeat over time period option, you can set an interval for your absence — for example, 3 weeks of vacation from July 1st to July 22nd. The right image above shows an example of reporting leave from January 27th to February 2nd, covering all weekdays in that period.
Reporting Work Orders
WO/VO screen showing 'Assigned to me' tab with date-grouped work orders.
You can continue to work with work orders in Next. In addition to a refreshed interface, one of the key updates is the ability to work more efficiently with checklists.
When you tap into Work Orders/Variation Orders (WO/VO), you can search for the work order you need. In the header, there are three options:
- Assigned to me — All work orders where you are assigned as the responsible service person, responsible supervisor, or planned in the resource planning in the Next client.
- Pool — The common service pool assigned to a work order, visible to all people in the pool.
- All Work Orders/Variation Orders (WO/VO) — All available work orders across all projects you're authorized for that have a status visible on the phone. You can also search for a specific work order or additional work here.
You can also add more work orders or variation orders using the orange + button.
Work Order Assignment tab; note status field, checklist, and photos section.
When you're inside a work order, you'll have access to several functions. At the top, you'll see a Back button and the label Work Order.
To the right of the Work Order heading, there's a shortcut to create a journal entry for the current work order. Please note that this is not the same as entering time — it links to the journal function in Next.
You'll also see information about the work order and the project, along with a button to edit or change the work order.
Below that, there are two tabs: Assignments and Resources and Articles. The Assignments tab is the default and shows general information about the WO/VO. The Resources and Articles tab shows reported order lines and articles for the current WO/VO. Other functions on the page include:
- Customer — Displays information about the customer related to the WO/VO.
- Location Information — Address and/or GPS coordinates for the WO/VO. You can also register coordinates while you're in the field, which is handy if you want to mark a work order with an exact location on a map. A Google Maps view is also available here.
- Assignment Description — Text information about what needs to be done.
- Feedback — A text field where the executor writes what has been addressed in the work order.
- Responsible Service Person — Who is currently responsible for the work order.
- Production Start and Production End — Dates for starting and completing the work order.
- Status — The current status of the work order.
- Checklist for Work Order — Shows any checklists that have been or will be performed on the work order. You can have multiple checklists on a single work order. See more information in the article Working with Checklists in Next.
- Photos/Documents — Linked photos and documents related to the work order.
- Add — Add more items to the work order, such as a checklist, time report, or additional photos.
- Save — Saves the current work order with any changes you've made.
Documents
For each work order and variation order (WO/VO), you can attach documents, images, links, and more — all viewable on your mobile device. For example, when you upload a PDF document you want to share to the mobile app, you can choose in the Next client whether that document should be visible on mobile.
In the mobile app, tap Documents in the toolbar at the bottom. You'll be taken to the Documents view.
First, select the project and work order or variation order where the document or image you're looking for is located. Once you've done that, all shared images and documents will be listed in a preview list, with thumbnails for images and details about other shared documents.
You can also upload new images directly through the mobile app — either by taking a new photo or choosing one or more images from your phone's photo library. Tap the + button to do this.
You can also search for images within the selected project, work order, or variation order.
To open an image or document, just tap on it. A larger view will appear with more details. Using the Details button, you can download the image if you'd like. You can also update the description and date of the image from this view.

Image detail view; note the unique GUID identifier displayed in the toolbar.
Reports
The Reports menu option in the mobile app lets you create various types of PDF documents that you can save and send — for example, to a client or for internal use.
There are several predefined report templates available in the mobile app, and they can be flexibly customized. The available report types are:
- Work Order — Gathers information from the work order, including checklists, hours, order lines, images, and more.
- Daily Report — Better suited for pulling data from multiple work orders or projects. It can include order lines, hours, images, and more.
- Variation Order Specification (VO) — A detailed specification of a variation order, including compensation forms, order lines, costs, checklists, and more.
- Journal Report — Focused on the journal, with details about order lines, images, checklists, and prices for additional or variation work.
- Daily Report (Hours) — Generate a report on recorded time and order lines, journal notes, and more — covering one or several projects.

Creating a Report
To create a report, select the report type you want and then configure the sections you'd like to include. Once you've made your selections, tap Create Report — the report will be generated as a PDF that you can save or email.
The generated report can span multiple pages, and you can easily navigate between them using the left and right arrows.
You can also sign a report directly on your mobile device by writing your signature in the designated box. At the bottom of the report, you'll find the following action buttons:
- Sign — Sign and save the report.
- Save — Save the report as a PDF in the current work order.
- Send — Email the report to any recipient.
- Print — Print the report.

Settings
In the toolbar at the bottom of the mobile app, you'll find a Settings option where you can configure your user profile — for example, you can change your password here.
At the top, you'll see your current user account. You can also log out from here using the orange button.
The following settings are available:
- Language — Change the language of your Next Mobile.
- Change Password — Update your password.
- Clear Offline Data — Clears stored data saved on your phone related to Next Mobile.
- Clear selection child — When you report VAB (care of a sick child) and enter the child or children you're taking leave for, those children are saved in a list linked to your user. You can clear that list here.
